I’ve Taken A Stained Glass Class – Where Do I Go From Here?
September 7, 2024 @ 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Fairly new to Stained Glass and not sure how to tackle it on your own? Feel a little alone in what to do next? On the 7th & 8th of September we will be offering two separate 3 hour class highlighting everything from pattern selection, cutting glass, grinding, foiling and soldering. Grinders and foiling will be hands-on, students can try out the ring saw, small flat grinder and regular grinder. They will work with foil – the different widths, black back, silver back, when to use what foil and how to repair tears when doing inside curves. We will discuss avoiding hinges, which make projects fragile, and have plenty of other helpful information. Do you need to wax your project? Why do some grinder heads chip so badly? When do you move the grinder head? How big a gap is acceptable when soldering? Why did my project grow bigger than my pattern? These are just some of the things that will be covered. If you have specific questions/problems, bring them along!
The hands on will be the Studio grinders and some foiling, the rest will be discussion and information. This class will be $30. This is the first time this class has been offered.
This class is for people who have already taken a stained-glass class, it is a review and information session – fused glass people would only find about 10% of this class of interest.
The class will be given by Pat McNeill who has been doing stained glass for over 40 years. Depending on enrollment, there will be one or two assistants who are also extremely experienced with glass.
These are 2 separate classes, one on Saturday 7th of Sept from 10 – 1 and another repeated on Sunday 8th Sept from 10 -1. If you would like to attend, please contact Pat at plmcneill53@gmail.com and then etransfer the $30 fee to her.
Soldering Class – There will be a soldering glass offered before Christmas, probably late November, to round off the three classes.
Note: during Pat’s classes, the studio will be open for members to use as normal, though we do request that use of grinders be kept to a minimum.
